Honda announced a recall impacting more than 750,000 vehicles, spanning various models from 2020 to 2022. Its recall addresses a critical airbag defect that could lead to unintended deployment, posing risks to occupants’ safety. At Ethen Ostroff Law, we are poised to help affected individuals, offering guidance through the Honda recall process. We are ready to protect their rights and ensure their well-being with our commitment to consumer safety and legal advocacy.

The Honda Recall

Honda Recall

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has highlighted a crucial flaw within the affected Honda vehicles, centered around the deployment of frontal and knee airbags during crashes when such deployment should not occur. This defect poses a substantial risk, particularly to vulnerable occupants such as infants in car seats, children, and individuals smaller than 4 feet 11 inches. At the heart of the issue lies a specific defect related to the capacitor in the printed circuit board of the front passenger seat weight sensor. Environmental humidity can lead to the cracking of this capacitor, resulting in an internal short circuit and triggering the airbag deployment.

Affected Honda Models

The affected Honda models include:

  • 2020-2022 Honda Accord
  • 2020-2021 Honda Accord Hybrid
  • 2020 Honda Civic 2-door
  • 2020-2022 Honda Civic 4-door
  • 2021-2022 Honda Civic hatchback
  • 2021 Honda Civic Type R
  • 2020-2021 Honda CR-V
  • 2020-2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid
  • 2020 Honda Fit
  • 2020-2022 Honda HR-Vhon
  • 2021 Honda Insight
  • 2020-2022 Honda Odyssey
  • 2020-2022 Honda Pilot
  • 2020-2021 Honda Passport
  • 2020-2021 Honda Ridgeline
  • 2020 Acura MDX
  • 2022 Acura MDX
  • 2020-2022 Acura RDX

Potential Risks and Dangers

The consequences of the airbag defect extend beyond mechanical malfunctions, encompassing risks that threaten both vehicle occupants and their loved ones. Understanding these hazards is crucial for prompt action and mitigating potential harm.

  • Unexpected airbag deployment: A faulty airbag can deploy unexpectedly, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries for vehicle occupants.

  • Vehicle safety impact: The presence of an airbag defect greatly reduces the safety of affected Honda vehicles, requiring owners to act quickly to prevent accidents or injuries.
